One of the best parts of touring around Oklahoma City by bike is visiting some of the great local businesses in OKC. We'll be featuring these businesses, buildings, public art, restaurants and bars in our blog feature "Stop Spotlight" (say that 5 times fast). We love supporting local and we hope you will too.
Our first "Stop Spotlight" is one that has been around for about two decades. With so many craft breweries popping up, we can't forget the original. Bricktown Brewery, which is located in the heart of Bricktown on Sheridan and Oklahoma, was one of the first businesses to open up in 1992 after the passage of the first "Maps" project.
Quick history lesson: Bricktown is located in the heart of Oklahoma City. In the early 1900's, Bricktown was a warehouse district. The first brick structures, which were 1-2 stories high were built in 1903, and the building gradually grew in height as time passed, the tallest brick buildings being built in the 1930's. The district spans about 60 blocks and is home to the Bricktown canal and the Chickasaw Bricktown Ball Park.
Okay -- back to the beer. The Bricktown location is the flagship location of Bricktown Brewery, although they have expanded to 12 other locations spanning Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas and Arkansas. All the beer is brewed in-house, in giant barrels visible through a large glass room that overlooks the main bar. Bricktown Brewery also has a special events room in the downtown location. They have a rotating list of beers, including IPAs, Pale Ales, Stouts and more. This brewery really led the way for the massive expansion of breweries around the city. The most popular beers they brew are the Bluesberry Ale and Six String Stout.
Another great thing about Bricktown Brewery is the FOOD! I would say this is traditional pub food with an Oklahoma twist. My recommendations are the Chicken Fried Steak, Watonga Cheese Curds (all the way from Watonga, OK!), and the Bricktown Loaded Chips.
The best part of Bricktown Brewery? They're open 7 days a week and centrally located! Stop in the next time you are in Bricktown for a Dodgers or Thunder game. And get the cheese curds!
